The UK Free Software Network have sponsored YAPC::Europe by providing our 2Mbps Net connection.
UKFSN sell broadband internet connections so they can fund Free Software in the UK by donating their profits to the Association for Free Software.
Movable Type is a blog content management Perl application written by Six Apart. They have recently opened a new office in Paris to enable them to develop and extend Movable Type and TypePad for the European market.
To mark their expansion they wanted to sponsor YAPC::Europe this year. During the conference they will explain how they can help Perl developers make money. And they are looking for a good Perl engineer.
O'Reilly and Perl are soul mates. This year O'Reilly have agreed to sponsor YAPC::Europe again. It really wouldn't be the same without them.
We are pleased to say that ActiveState are sponsoring us this year, as they have done in previous years.
ActiveState are a great example of a company that has used Perl for Profit. At one time they were the only place to get Perl for Microsoft Windows, and their ActivePerl distribution is still the prefered Windows version of Perl, and it now runs on better operating systems too. They also produce Komodo, an IDE for Open Source languages including Perl.
We can now accept sponsorship via PayPal; it's easier than a cheque.
The whole purpose of YAPC it to be an inexpensive conference for Perl users. But it is also supposed to be a good conference, and that requires time and money. YAPC has always depended much more on sponsorship than many other conferences, and this year will be no exception.
